Flowerclaw rested her head down on the ground. She had just talked to Darkstar, the leader of BeachClan, about her position in the clan. She was a medicine cat apprentice, recently given her warrior name, but she didn't feel quite right. She loved Bloodfrost, the clan deputy, but she knew it was forbidden for a medicine cat to fall in love, so she wanted her warrior name.
The clan leader had refused. But Flowerclaw knew she wasn't going to give up. She got up, stretching her legs, and marched into the leader's deep, dark cave.
"Darkstar, I want to talk to you. Now." she meowed, sitting down with her tail curling around her paws. "What is it, Flower?" "Why can't you just call me Flowerclaw?" she snapped. Darkstar lowered his head. "Alright. Flowerclaw, what is wrong now?" he corrected himself.
"Darkstar, haven't you ever felt something for a cat? Like love?" she prodded. "I feel nothing for any cat. Love is something for a cat that doesn't have any pride or selflessness." he answered, as though he was reading it from a script. I wouldn't describe you as selflessness. Thought Flowerclaw to herself.
"But what about feeling proud? Watching your kits become apprentices and warriors? Seeing someone that cares for you every day?" Flowerclaw rested her left paw on top of her tail. She waited for Darkstar's answer, but it never came. Or so she thought. "Feeling proud of yourself is enough." he snorted.
"Not all of this clan have the same oppinion though. What about those that don't think you should just be proud of yourself?" she pushed, hoping that Darkstar would finally see what she was leading to. "Then those cats can take their foolish mates and love them all they want to. They're low lives Flowerclaw. They don't know what it means to be popular."
Flowerclaw let out a slight hiss. "Look," Flowerclaw snapped, "if you can't see that some cats might want to be normal, without a reputation of hell, like you, then maybe I'm waisting my time and I should leave the clan."
She knew that BeachClan needed warriors, and if this inconsiderate cat couldn't see that, then she was for sure waisting her time. "I thought I would be doing you a favor by giving you more warriors. Everyone knows that Redkit wants to be a medicine cat, and she becomes an apprentice in a moon. I'm pretty sure Mylothfur will not die within a moon." she realized that the whole clan could probably hear her by now.
Darkstar's soothing voice came again. "Flowerclaw, you will be set back a few moons of training if you wish to tread the life of a warrior. It would be like living at only nine moons old again. Why do you want this life so bad? Why do you keep insisting to go back to another training process?" his voice became frantic.
"Because I want to love." she mewed simply. Darkstar didn't seem at all worried. "But by being a medicine cat, you show love for your whole clan." Oh no. No comeback. Flowerclaw thought.
"But I can't love Bloodfrost. I can't have kits. What kind of life is that?" she snapped, suddenly able to come up with something that could leave him speachless, but it didn't. "A life without pain." he mewed, and Flowerclaw threw back her head.
"Clearly you don't see. All I want is to be a warrior. The ancient ThunderClan let Hollypaw become a warrior after she wanted to give up her life as a medicine cat. Why can't you?" she added. Darkstar's voice went into a yowl. "Why do you think we call them the ancient ThunderClan? Plus, the only reason that they let Hollypaw train as a warrior is because Great StarClan sent a prophecy."
Flowerclaw arched her back and puffed out her fur. "I want to be a warrior and that's final." she growled. After so long of complaining, all Darkstar managed to sqeak out was, "Fine. You become a warrior tommorow." and Flowerclaw walked away, turning her back to Darkstar. I hope he dies tommorow and Bloodfrost takes his place. she thought as she slowly went back to her den.
