Title: Torn To Fire: Outcast
Author: Silverfog
Chapters: No clue. Maybe 20?
Pairing: It doesn't center on it, but BramblexSquirrel and AshxSquirrel.
Summary: What would happen if Brambleclaw did kill Firestar by the lake, and not Hawkfrost? What would happen? It's written in Hawkfrost's, Brambleclaw's and Squirrelflight's perspective.
Editor: None.
Cover: I wish! I really can't draw.
Author's Notes: I'm not sure how this is going to end... It just came into my head as an idea, so I'm probably as confused as you are.
Brambleclaw
I stood in front of Firestar, beside Hawkfrost. "Go on," he murmured. "Just kill him, and all your ambitions could be fulfilled." I took a moment to look around, to see the cool waves of water lapping against the shore, smell the prey-rich trees waving to the sky, however tainted they were by the scent of blood. Was this what I would choose? To forever tainted, just as the air was? Struggle as I might, the waves of dark, powerful hunger chilling my heart finally dragged me under. Firestar seemed to see my decision in my face, for he rasped softly, "I expected better from StarClan's chosen. From my daughter's choice." I tried to hide it, but the thought of Squirrelflight pushed me to the surface. Would she want to be my mate, still, if she discovered my hate? Hawkfrost hissed in derision. "Don't listen to him, brother. He's just a cowardly kittypet!" Firestar snorted. "Kittypet I may have been, but you’re the coward.” I pushed the stick into his throat, and he closed his eyes, convulsing, I looked away. I had no wish to see my former leader and mentor dying a gruesome death, just as had my father.
Suddenly, I heard a quiet hiss seeming to come from everywhere but nowhere at once. “You have done well, my sons,” purred Tigerstar. “Now, go tell your weak little Clan, Brambleclaw, that the ‘great’ Firestar is dead, caught in a fox trap, and that you could not save him…” The hiss stopped for a moment. “Do not mention Hawkfrost; if you do, suspicion will rise. Hawkfrost, go hunting and tell your Clan that’s where you were all along… Good luck.”
I nodded once, then raced along the path I’d taken, already debating how to announce to ThunderClan that their great leader was gone, living forever in StarClan, and slowly regretting how I would never be able to myself. I’d be relegated to the Dark Forest, with Tigerstar, home of outcasts and those so evil that they could never walk the star-paths. I looked up at the sky, which was turning to those same stars. Would I ever be able to find enjoyment and comfort there, after knowing one star was one of fire? I continued to walk, hating myself. How could I have killed in cold blood a cat who had been as close to me, closer, than Tigerstar ever was, ever could be? He was more my father! He had kept me in the Clan, trusted me after Tigerstar's disloyalty, and I had proved him and all the doubters right.
My throat caught, and I saw Squirrelflight's face. I could just imagine her hate, her scorn. She would tell the Clan, if I told her. I could never become her mate. I would see Firestar's face in her, his personality in her... What if I ran, became an outcast? But no. ThunderClan deserved the truth. I realized I regretted… Too late, the wind seemed to whisper.
