Okay, I've been to a couple of concerts before, but this one topped them all. ;D The crowd tonight was the largest crowd ever at the amphitheater we went to. So, power to the classic rock fans. Well, anyway, here's what happened-
We got tickets on the lawn, which is a big spread of grass behind the stadium seating area. So, we spread out a bunch of blankets and sat down chatting with some people we had met up with for a while. Before the show started, I got myself an awesome Journey t-shirt that I love to death now. We chatted for another half-hour until the show finally started.
Cheap Trick came up first, and after their opening song they asked how the crowd was. The stadium seat people were cheering really loud. Then he pointed out and asked how the people on the grass were doing, and we cheered to high heavens. And then the lead singer commented after we finished, "I meant physically on the grass, not medically." xD They played If You Want My Love, The Flame, Surrender, I Want You To Want Me, and a couple of songs I didn't know before. When they played I Want You To Want Me, the lead singer was talking to me about how they had been playing at a concert in some foreign country, and they thought had to speak really slowly for the people to understand. So the lead singer says, "It went like this- I want you..." and when he paused, the crowd went wild. "...to want me!" and then they played the song. For the encore, they played my all-time favorite of theirs, Dream Police. <3 Sadly, they didn't play Tonight It's You (another song of theirs I really like), but it was good nonetheless. I got some really good french fries at intermission and shared a soda with my brother.
After intermission, it was Heart's turn. I didn't know as much about Heart as I did Journey, but it was still enjoyable. Their lead singer is phenomenal. You should have heard the crowd when they played Barracuda. *ears still ringing* They also played a Who song and a Led Zeppelin song (Love Reign O'er Me and Goin' To California, respectively). They played a lot of slow songs, too, and that was great. Their encore was Crazy On You, and that was awesome. I was talking to my dad about them not singing Crazy On You yet, and then they played it. I called it! ;D Not really, but my dad was laughing at me when I said that. Heart is an amazing band, and their lead singers are still as great as ever.
I was spazzing out all through the next intermission because I knew Journey was next. =3 They just recently found a new singer through YouTube (just before the start of their tour, in fact), so I was excited to see how he would do. Everyone was standing up at this point, and I was really hyped up. So, they came on and played one of their new songs first; Never Walk Away. After that was Only The Young. Their new singer sounded freakishly like Steve Perry, and he was one heck of an entertainer. They did Change For The Better (another one of their new songs), Seperate Ways (I thought of the AshxSquirrelxBramble love triangle the whole way through xD), and a few songs I didn't recognize. And then they played Don't Stop Believing. <3 It was amazing! I was singing along at the top of my lungs and jumping up and down like there was no tomorrow, just like every song. And then they played Open Arms and Faithfully, and then one of my personal favorites of their new songs- Faith In The Heartland. I had found the setlist for one of their concerts online, but it didn't have that song on it, so I was kind of disappointed. But as soon as I heard it I screamed so loud everyone around me looked at me funny. =3 When they played Lights, everyone had their cellphones and lighters out. Funny thing was, there were more lighters than cellphones! I looked behind me and there's this mass of flickering lights from people's lighters. It was a very cool sight. I was just swaying back and forth. Then they played Wheel In The Sky, which encouraged a lot of crowd arm-pumping and some funny dance moves from me and my two other friends, who where both guys. x3 To put it in short, it was amazing. Heck, not even that can describe it. Journey is so amazing in person, and their pianist Jonathan Cain is great. <3 I kept yelling, "Rock on, Jon!" xD. All in all, the concert was made of epic, epic win and I don't think anything can top it. =)
