Sometimes, cats can surprise you. You might not think so, but that can only mean that you haven't found out all their secrets yet. Well, this cat is super smart, and super wise. She's as black as ink, and although nobody knows, she reads. Yes, reads, as in books. What do you expect a cat to do in her spare time, locked up at home every day? She DID graduate from Kitties Only University, you know, but she has nowhere to show her genius. She doesn't want to shock her not-as-smart owners to death, so she pretends to be the typical house cat around them, and only use her brains at night. As a feline, she can read in the dark anyways.
Lollypop, which was her name (and a very weird name indeed for a black cat), didn't have a wide variety of good books to choose from each night. Her owners weren't into literature (or much else besides clipping their toenails for that matter), so all the books she were able to get her paws on were odd, thin little storybooks.
Jumping onto the bookshelf, Lollypop picked out one of the books gently with her teeth. The cover looked interesting at least. She flipped the page with her paw. It was about an Inuit fighting another Inuit for an igloo that they both built together, and one ended up dead.
She stopped reading before she finished it; fighting made her nervous. Instead, she picked out another book. This one looked like a history book, which was hard to find in this household. This was about a raid that took place ages ago in China. So many battles went on that the Yellow River turned red...
Lollypop hissed, slapping the book shut with her claws. She hated wars. She knew that she had a mercurial personality, but she couldn't help but feel angry about such pointless killing.
She was about to give up when she saw an unusually thick book with a black cover. It was so near the back that she almost missed it. It surprised her though; she never expected her owners to have any book thicker than her tail tip. Curious, Lollypop took some effort into dragging the book out, but it landed flat with a "flop". Her ears flattened as she waited for the old couple to come see what the ruckus was about, but all she heard in reply was a snort, then back to snoring. Good.
She turned back to the book. "The Holy Bible"; she never heard anything like that before. Flipping to a random page, she started reading. Her bright amber eyes went from confusion, to surprise, then to understanding. As she read the words about Jesus, she felt as light as a feather, even though the teachings weren't always about getting peace in the world.
That night, Lollypop got at least just a little bit wiser.

Author's Notes: If you read "Put Your Faith In God", this is another story for the scavenger hunt. ^^ Here are the words: cat, Bible, toenail, river, igloo, China, ink, raid, lollypop, feather, mercurial, and peace. (much more random eh?)
See if you can find them in this story. =P I tried making sense of it all, so I hope it's ok. ^^''
